Rumors of Hope (Psalm 116 & Matthew 5)
I can’t tell you why some people seem to coast through their life while others hit every bump in the road. I don’t know how some never break stride with their clear eyes, wide smiles and good posture, while others can’t seem to run from a plauging reality of injustices - hypersensitive to the deep rooted brokenness that started somewhere between a Garden paradise and our parents making love.
I’m not sure which group you relate to more, I’m not sure who’s living more in truth - at times, I’m not even sure how hope is sustained for people like us… I firmly believe to the capacity our souls experience the weight of pain and loneliness is the capacity to which we are able to experience real freedom and fellowship in that place. To the measure we are forced to bear the burdens of this world (along with the closely following encumbrance of our flesh) is the measure that will allow us to be alive, to have joy, to see redemption. The extremes we feel in our depression are exactly what can enable us to rise and see beauty in places where no one else can - to have some of the most stunning days, the most meaningful relationships. If you’ve felt it you know what I mean by - the relief in exhalation - the awakening of revelation - the flooding life that comes in the morning, if you can make it out of the treachery of your bed and the warzone of your front door.
Only extreme hurt can facilitate extreme healing. Only an immense emptiness can one day contain immense fullness. Only those entangled in the traps can experience the freedom of casting them off. So if you’ve heard rumors saying there is hope for you here - they’re true, don’t forget it.
As deep as pain can go, there is a deeper salve(Salvation) that remedies.
“The cords of death entangled me,
the anguish of the grave came over me;
I was overcome by distress and sorrow.
Then I called on the name of the LORD:
“LORD, save me!”
..The LORD protects the unwary;
when I was brought low, he saved me.
Return to your rest, my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.”
“Blessed are those who mourn,
for they will be comforted.”
